Growing up in Monaca there are things that many of us will remember for the rest of our lives. For some of us it was the summer days spent at the swimming pools, for those my age it was spending time at the water slides, and for others it was Monaca Community Days. This community event has become a cherished part of countless lives. Whether it is kids running around playing games, adults enjoying a nice cold beverage, or holding a loved one close for the fireworks there is something for everyone at Community Days.
Monaca will be hosting Community Days this Saturday, July 2nd at the Monaca Pump House. Yes you heard right, a new location for this year’s Community Days. Rather than hosting a smaller firework display, those who organize Community Days decided that it would be best to host Community Days in conjunction with Beaver County Boom. The firework display will be presented by Zambelli’s starting at 9:45 p.m. will feature a choreographed musical experience. This year’s show theme is “Red, White & Boom” and WBVP will be broadcasting the accompanying music.
This year’s Community Days will feature a variety of entertainment and activities for the entire family. In terms of entertainment there will be a magician, The Hawkeye Trio, and Sidewinder performing. Event-goers will also enjoy a variety of craft booths, children’s games, a bounce house, balloon sculptures, and face painting.
You certainly can’t leave out the wide array of food that will be available as well! It is a tradition for me to grab a Papa Duke’s gyro and a funnel cake every community days. This year there is expected to be everything from gyros to fried Oreos to Root Beer Floats. In addition to the traditional food, the Monaca #4 Volunteer Fire Department will also be setting up a beer garden for adults to enjoy a selection of beers during the great weather.
It should be noted that starting at 6:00 p.m. a free shuttle will be available from St. John’s (15th Street and Virginia Ave) to the pump house. Hope to see everyone at Community Days this Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
