Touch-A-Truck coming this Saturday to Monaca

Ever want to turn the lights and sirens on in a fire truck? How about see what the world looks like from the view of a semi?  Sit in the back seat of a police car … without being arrested? Well here is your chance.

The Monaca Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting the second annual Touch-A-Truck this Saturday, July 16th from 12:00 – 4:00 at the Central Valley Middle School.  The event will start with a sensory-friendly hour to accommodate individuals with special needs who may be sensitive to horns and lights.

Children and their families will have the opportunity to touch, sit-in and explore real vehicles from a number of different industries. In addition to emergency vehicles from fire department, some of the vehicles in attendance include: the Beaver County Fire Safety Trailer, ambulance, tow truck, food truck, police vehicles, semi, school bus, and much more.

In addition to the vehicles, activities are planned throughout the day for attendees including a bounce house, face painter, a fire fighting simulation for children, and various demonstrations.  The Beaver County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #4 will also be setting up their bike safety course from 12:00 – 2:00.  Children can use the bikes provided by the FOP or bring their own to learn proper bike safety.

“The community supports us so much every year that we love putting this event on for them,” said Chris Shotter, Monaca #4 Fire Department’s President.  “Most of the time children only get an opportunity to see vehicles such as fire trucks pass by them on the road. For children who love trucks, the opportunity to get hands-on with the vehicles is really special.”

Touch-A-Truck is a completely free event for families to attend.  In addition to organizing the event, the Monaca Fire Department also incurs any costs associated with it as well.  “The community donates to us every year and this is just one way that we can give back to them,” said Shotter.

Throughout the day donations will also be accepted for the victims of the Washington Ave fire that occurred earlier in the month.
