A quick look around and you will see people are diving into mud, dashing through bubbles, and adorning themselves in glow-sticks as part of numerous adventure races throughout the area. What if you wanted to ditch all of that and become a hero instead.
Firefighter Themed Obstacle Course
The Monaca #4 Volunteer Fire Department’s Stop, Drop & Run gives you that exact opportunity. Crisscrossing over the Monaca heights is the Stop, Drop and Run obstacle course that pits you against nearly 20 firefighter themed obstacle challenges. They promise that not only will your strength be challenged, but also your stamina, courage, and teamwork.
Now in its second year, the Stop, Drop & Run Firefighter Challenge has added even more obstacles from last year’s course. Participants will be tasked with crawling through smoke filled mazes, extinguishing a car fire, rescuing victims, and much more. Additional obstacles can be found on their website.
Those brave enough to make it through all the challenges will be rewarded with not only a t-shirt, but also a race medal as well. If you think you can handle the heat sign up today. Prices go up after September 30th, so sign up today.
Standard 5K Walk / Run
If diving through the mud and carrying heavy objects isn’t your cup of tea, the Stop, Drop and Run also has a standard 5K Walk / Run option as well. This standard race was started in 2013 and is now in its fourth year.
Runners and walkers will begin a the Monaca #4 Volunteer Fire Department, cross across the Monaca Heights to Antoline Park, and finish at the fire department. The first place overall Male and Female finishers will be awarded $100 along with medals being awarded to each respective division winner. All participants will be awarded a race shirt as well.
The price to register is only $20 today, but prices go up next week. Save by registering today here.
If you like the idea of helping out the fire department, but 5K’s just aren’t your thing, there are still other ways you can support your local firefighters. The first option is to be a “virtual runner”. This option allows you to make a donation to the department and also receive a race shirt.
The other option is to physically volunteer for the event. An event of this size takes a sizable number of volunteers. As the race has grown each year, so has the number of volunteers it takes to make it a success. If you would like to volunteer for the Stop, Drop & Run, you can sign up here.
Why is this race so important?
Monaca, as the case with almost all communities in Pennsylvania, is protected by volunteer firefighters. While supported by the Borough of Monaca, these volunteer fire departments, must also fund-raise to fund training and equipment that is necessary for them to function. The Stop, Drop & Run is the largest fundraiser for the Monaca #4 Fire Department, and without it innumerable pieces of equipment and training would not be able to be afforded. If you are considering participating in some capacity, please remember that ever dollar raised goes directly to supporting your volunteer firefighters.
